Collographs are prints made from a collage – various things stuck on a plate to make a picture. I use things I have collected – plants, leaves, wool, ribbon, sand, material – anything really that can be made flat enough and will stick to the lino which I use as my base plate. The plate is then inked up and put through an etching press; because the paper is used damp, not only does one get the colours transferred but the impression is embossed into the paper. Each print is inked and printed by hand so although the intention is to get several prints the same (called an edition), they are all slightly different.
